Wash and care guidelines for fabric
Prewashing fabric before cutting and sewing is essential to prevent shrinkage, color bleeding, or distortion after the garment is finished.
Different fabrics react differently to washing, so prewashing helps ensure the final garment maintains the desired fit and look, especially for natural fibers, which tend to shrink more. It also removes any chemicals or finishing detergents used during the manufacturing process.
In general, we recommend:
- Always wash as cold and gently as possible.
- Choose a settng with low spinning. High spinning can cause wrinkling, distortion, and even permanent creasing marks, especially in heavier fabrics and woven lyocell fibers.
- Be careful of how you hang or lay fabrics to dry to avoid skewing.
- No textiles benefit from tumble drying.
- If you're not sewing immediately, iron and neatly fold the fabric to keep it in good condition.
